Comedienne/singer/songwriter Wendy Jo Smith aka Comedy’s Queen of Raunch and Soul: Wendy Ho is not as famous as Madonna, Cher, or even RuPaul…yet. However, in drag showrooms throughout the country where the diva prototype reigns supreme, Wendy Ho’s material has been lip-synched to just as much as any chart topping star. If you’ve ever gone to a drag show, chances are you’ve heard the parody of Oleta Adams’ “Get Here,” now widely known as the “Fuck Me” song. Maybe you’ve even seen Wendy Ho sing the song live in one of these venues. In the past 8 years since the song’s release, she has been able to parlay her pension for parody writing and performing into a full blown career as one of the nation’s leading “female drag queens.” Just as in comedy, she finds herself a woman playing a man’s game–only in predominantly gay venues, she feels like she’s winning. Ho is a hustler who tours non stop throughout the year and makes a nice living getting to be with her favorite people in the whole wide world..her fellow drag queens!
Last year her Greatest Shits album, which also features the song, spent 3 months in the top 10 Billboard Comedy Chart.
So after all this time, why release the video for “Fuck Me” now? Wendy and her film maker husband Stas Tagios (who also brought you viral videos “Poop Noodle,” “Oprah Winfrey,” and “Yes, I’m a Ho!”) decided that they wanted a visual to go along with the song when people happened to hear it from a drag queen or otherwise. They also wanted to be able to do the already hit song justice, and although they both make their livings in their respective fields (Stas is a director of photography for the production company World of Wonder), they didn’t have the kind of money that it would take to make their vision a reality— so they launched a Kickstarter fundraising campaign.
Within one month they were able to raise over $10,000 to support the video. A rainbow hurricane of support came in not only from her fans, but also from some of top drag queens in the world that Wendy has performed alongside and in the process become great friends with including RuPaul’s Drag Race’s alumni Chad Michaels, Pandora Boxx, Trixie Mattel and everyone’s favorite insult drag comic, Bianca Del Rio.
The official video release party for “Fuck Me” will happen on September 26, 2015 in West Hollywood at Hamburger Mary’s with the video going live on all social media outlets and her webpage on September 27. For more information visit: Wendyexperience.com
